Decadent Chocolate Poke Cake

This Decadent Chocolate Poke Cake is rich, moist, and downright irresistible. It starts with a boxed cake mix, but the fudgy filling and creamy frosting make it taste completely homemade.
Servings 8 -10 people
Total Time 1 hour 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 14oz / 397g can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 boxed chocolate cake mix plus ingredients required on the box
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips melted (170g)
  • Additional chocolate for garnish

Frosting

  • ¾ cup cocoa powder 65g
  • 1 cup butter softened (225g)
  • cups powdered sugar 300g
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup heavy cream 60ml
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350ºF / 175ºC degrees and grease and line a 9” x 13” baking tin.
  • Prepare the cake mix as per the packet instructions and bake as instructed until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool completely.
  • Using the handle end of a wooden spoon, poke large holes all over the cake.
  • Mix together the melted chocolate and condensed milk and pour all over the cake allowing it to flow into the holes.

To make the frosting:

  • Beat together the butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract and salt then beat in the heavy cream. Add a little more cream if the mixture is too thick.
  • Spread all over the cake with a spatula and then top with grated chocolate or chocolate curls.
