Crispy Sticky Beef
This crispy sticky beef recipe is the perfect balance of savory, sweet, and a little bit of heat. It’s a quick weeknight dinner that doesn’t sacrifice flavor for speed. With minimal ingredients and a simple process, it’s one of those dishes you’ll find yourself making over and over.
Equipment
- Sharp knife
- Wide bottom pan
Ingredients
- 2 lb Flank steak sliced into ½-inch strip
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 ½ cups vegetable oil
- 1 tsp fresh ginger grated
- ⅔ cup dark brown sugar
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ½ cup water
- 2 bunches of spring onions sliced into diagonal strips
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Stir the beef and cornstarch together ensuring all the beef is coated and set aside for 15 minutes.
- Pour a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil into a wide bottom pan and heat on a medium heat. Add in the ginger and cook for around 30 seconds.
- Add in the brown sugar, soy sauce and water and bring to the boil stirring until all the sugar is dissolved and the sauce starts to thicken.
- Allow the sauce to simmer and continue to thick whilst you cook the beef.
- Heat the cup and a half of oil in a deep pan to around 35 degrees. Shake the excess cornstarch off the beef and in batches add to the oil cooking for a couple of minutes on each side until crispy then place into a paper towel lined bowl to absorb any excess oil.
- Add the sliced spring onions into the sauce and cook until wilted then add in the cooked beef and stir to coat all sides.
- Cook for another minute or two, then serve with brown rice and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
